SanDisk Ad Blitz Now

SanDisk Ad Blitz

Team info
DescriptionSANDISK, maker of the world's 2nd best-selling mp3 player (behind Apple's iPod) has started a fresh anti-iPod advertising. You are able to read about it in detail here:

Here is the nonsense in summary. SanDisk is said to be porting Rockbox, an open-source OS for electronic audio people (which supports a variety of mp3 devices), onto its common e200 mp3 player. SanDisk has started releasing the before-mentioned anti-iPod ads within an attempt to blatantly attack its arch-nemesis, Apple, to create the matter to public awareness.

The ads express graffiti-like illlustrations built to resemble posters for an underground revolutionary movement. Navigating To ledified fundable certainly provides warnings you could give to your father. One shows a monkey wearing the iPod earbuds with the line 'Are you an iChimp?', and another is of some guy strung up in white iPod wires just like a marionette, with the text: 'Have you become an iPuppet'?

Okay, ok. Mp3 competition is fierce- I get it. SanDisk desires to perform rough- fine by me. In terms of I'm concerned, open source is good stuff, and there is little doubt in my mind that SanDisk makes a good product. Competition will work for the buyer and capitalism. I'm perhaps not here to tout the technical power of just one geek system over another.

What I will discuss, however, is the character of-the ads themselves. I took one look at these things and I'll tell you right now that I'm not planning to move from iPod to e200. You know why? Since being an i-pod consumer, I feel like I'm being insulted. Hey, I'm not an intricate person so I'll not enter the complete nitty-gritty of 'Apple allows you to do this-and-that blah blah blah and it only works with iTunes blah blah blah.'

I put the iPod into my computer and the damn thing works. That's why I use it. Visiting ledified competition likely provides suggestions you might give to your friend.

For me, SanDisk's entire 'revolutionary' offer strategy, however sexy, is eventually misguided. For one thing, I will not be won by SanDisk over by insulting me and comparing me to your monkey, puppet, sheep, or any kind of farm animal. Secondly, SanDisk's advertisements also evoke a political side, making no sense. For better or for worse, people get iPods because they NEED TO, maybe not because they are required to. More over, Apple allows its products and services to stand on their own benefit and they never insult people for perhaps not using them. Although Apple has poked fun at PCs in their own internet and TV activities, it's a far cry from SanDisk's 'Are you an iPuppet'? Strategy.

Maybe I am an iPod individual that's getting this whole thing a little too personally. But if the Rockbox and e200 are so excellent, which I believe they are, maybe SanDisk should just tell us why and let the people choose.

For many of SanDisk's anti-iPod effort, Apple could easily fire back and say SanDisk continues to be # 2, and second place will be the first loser. Even when it's true, it would be insulting, right?.
