It's a very astonishing fact to understand that the issue BPH has been described in ayurveda long straight back. We found out about this page is not affiliated by searching newspapers. The anatomical location of prostate gland, symptoms of BPH and its treatments are discussed by Acharya Sushruta.

The anatomical position of prostate gland is explained in ayurvedic classics as follows

In Yogaratnakara it's been referred to as --

NAABHERADHASTHAATSANJAATAHA SANCHAARI YADI VAACHALAHA|

ASHTEELAAVAD GHANO GRANTHIROODHWAR MAAYATA UNNATAHA||

Which suggests Below umbilicus (NAABHI), there's a difficult gland which is small bit bulged and changes its position some times and some times remains stationary. This gland is like Ashteela (A tiny stone used to sharpen swords). That gland when afflicted with vitiated vata causes an illness called vataashteela (or benign prostate hypertrophy)

Sushruta describes the design, anatomical location of prostate gland and symptoms of BPH the following.

SHACRANMAARGASYA BASTHESHCHA VAAYURANTARAMAASHRITAHAI

ASHTEELAAVADGHANAM GRANTHIMMOORDHVAMAAYATA MUNNATAM||

Meaning - the place between anus and bladder is filled by vitiated vata it affects the easy flow of urine, chairs and sperm by enhancing the gland Ashteela.

The prostate gland enlarges in every men as age advances. BPH is very common and affects one-third of men who are more than 50. Someone struggling with BPH does not have the increased risk of prostate cancer.

Capabilities of Prostate gland

One-of the main features of the prostate is to make a fluid, which contribute to the liquid portion of sperm and this liquid allows the sperm to move freely.

The gland is split into peripheral, transitional and central region. The overgrowth takes place in central region leading to BPH.

Effects of BPH Prostate gland encompasses urethra. It constricts the urethra reducing the urine flow, when prostate gland enlarges. The emptying of bladder becomes very hard as a result of this.
