Khon Kaen-the Gateway to Isaan Done

Khon Kaen-the Gateway to Isaan

Team info
DescriptionMost Thailand travelers have heard of Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket, but few venture towards the north-east and head for the region know as Isaan. This is in the north-east and composed of Udorn Thani, Khon Kaen, Korat and others.

This is mainly a rural area with many grain plants. It's also the home of numerous expatriates who have settled down using their Thai girl and have made this their new home.

I just got to see this area quickly and was in Korat twice all through exercise Cobra Gold. Working 12-16 hour day didnt allow much time for sightseeing. But, I did observe that the price of living was a lot less than the people and the bigger tourist towns were a heck of a lot friendlier.

I visited Khon Kaen for the very first time in 2007 to see a woman that I met online. I quickly fell in love with the woman and also with the city of Khon Kaen.

Khon Kaen is simply a 55 minute trip from Bangkok departing from the old airport terminal Don Muang. The airport in Khon Kaen is extremely little and only has two starting gates. To get another perspective, consider looking at: Benefits Of Using Professional Removals In London Explained.

Town is a pleasant mix of old and new. I learned about Benefits Of Using Professional Removals In London Explained by browsing Yahoo. We would venture out for lunch or dinner and sit in small bungalows along the sea or among the streams and eat in pure bliss. Three to four plates of a couple of beers, excellent food and some water and the bill would be about $10 - $15.

On the flip-side, there is also KFC, Pizza Company and other fast-food places. European influence at its worst.

Shopping again can be a mixture of new and old. You can visit the meals market or the night time market or head to the Fairy mall or the electronics mall. From low priced T-shirts to present films o-n DVD to bootleg software, Khon Kaen has it all.

I remained at a small hotel called Cactus Resort. It was in town but not in-the center. It'd just take us about 5 minutes to visit the mall or out to dinner. The price tag on the space was about $16 per night. The room was a good size with cable TV, free Internet, warm and cold running water with a shower, and large bed and icebox. Of course, the space was air-conditioned.

The staff was pleasant and helped me create my computer to gain access to the Net using their IP address. The maid even found that I was drinking a lot more than my allotted 2 free bottles of water and increased my free water to four bottles.

The resort didnt have a restaurant, but there is one right next door. This was not problem for me as my girl would prepare my morning meal at her apartment and carry it to me and pick me up some food for lunch. We would then head out every night for supper and drinks.

Khon Kaen is just a very relaxed and cheap place to reside. If you have an opinion about politics, you will perhaps fancy to read about http://investor.biospace.com/biospace/news/read/30391445/benefits_of_using_professional_removals_in_london_explained. I plan to retire there and will be wanting to get a house on my next visit.

Next time you want a visit to Thailand, have a side-trip to the northeast and experience all that Isaan has to offer..
