Hi,

I just got my sensor, seems good so far.

I had a though, I live ~25km from a Nuclear Power Plant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limerick_Nuclear_Power_Plant)

Is it expected that the reading would be higher?

Interesting question. Why don't you get the signature graph going in your posts, like I have in mine, so you can make a rough comparison with graphs from detectors like mine that are not near a reactor. In Community Preferences in the signature box I have:

{img}http://radioactiveathome.org/scripts/graph/draw.php?hostid=1016&ntrickles=30{/img}

Use [] instead of {} and substitute your own host ID for 1016. I forget exactly what the 30 does.

I would guess that at 25 miles you won't notice much of a difference unless the reactor is leaking radiation.

There is another style of graph available from this website too, I forget where, it might be more meaningful than the type in my sig.

Aha! From your post in Number Crunching I see you do have the graph setup, it's just not in your post in this thread.

The "30" should by number of trickles displayed (by default is 1000).
Other type of graph is described here

Seem like not so far, my reading seem ver close to everyone else.

This experiment will answer these sort of questions.

If the sensor is portiable I could drive up closer and see if it changes.

It's possible to add esternal power source to detector, I have allso tested battery power module and connection with my SGS2, but for unknown (still) reason application for Android phones doesn't want to communicate with our detector...

Can I plug it in my laptop and get readings with the power from USB?

Or even portable USB power source.

Detector works fine with laptops, and should work with portable USB power source...
